Since 1928, The London Taxidrivers' Fund for Underprivileged Children, with the help of many London taxidrivers and carers, has organised hundreds of outings. The annual trips to the seaside in convoys of taxis are always a firm favourite, but taking children to the circus, the zoo, and theatres are also very exciting events.
But what else do the trustees -13 working London taxidrivers- undertake on behalf of 'Special Needs' Children. Every month (usually the first Tuesday) they meet and plan for future outings and events. Also during the meeting the many appeals received for financial help are reviewed. These can be for the purchase of medical, recreational and communicative equipment for individual families, children's residential homes and hospitals.
Not forgotten are the dependants of London taxidrivers who have hit hard times through illness and other unfortunate circumstances. At Christmas, taxi trade organisations supply details of taxidrivers who are unable to work for various reasons and, as you can imagine, this causes great hardship and suffering to the families concerned, especially during the festive season.
The Fund sends thousands of pounds of gift vouchers to many families and this gives the opportunity for the parents or guardians to purchase some toys and goodies for the children. |
