ON FRIDAY 4TH JUNE 2010 THE HILTON HOTEL, EUSTON, HELD A SPONSORED INDOOR FIXED BIKE RIDE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE LTFUC (Amount raised will be advised in due course) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ON TUESDAY 7TH JULY 2009 THE UNDERHILL JUNIOR SCHOOL, BARNET, HERTS PRESENTED THE LTFUC WITH A CHEQUE FOR £555.60
Hon. Secretary, Malcolm Shaffron accepts the cheque on behalf of the LTFUC On 19th May 2009 the LTFUC had taken children from Underhill Junior School on a trip to Woburn Safari Park and Naz Goddard, the Head Teacher, said they were indebted to the LTFUC for giving them this opportunity and that this donation was to show the appreciation of the parents, teachers and carers for taking the children on the outing. On arrival at the assembly hall, the committee were greeted with loud cheers and clapping from the 240 children present and some of the children read out their memories of the day. A large screen displayed many lovely pictures taken on the trip and before leaving we were taken to every classroom at the school, in order for all the children to say goodbye. The LTFUC are deeply grateful to Naz and everyone at the school for the kind hospitality shown to us and we thank everyone who contributed to this kind donation and hope to take the children out again in the future.
FOLLOWING THEIR 2009 EASTER RAFFLE THE ROYAL OAK TAXI CENTRE PRESENTED A CHEQUE FOR £640 TO THE LTFUC The London Taxidrivers’ Fund for Underprivileged Children were delighted to hear from John Anderson of the Royal Oak Taxi Centre that they would be the beneficiaries of an Easter Raffle that he was organising. On the day of the raffle all the drivers there were pleasantly surprised to see a gorgeous ‘Bunny’ selling tickets for the raffle and, unable to hide their excitement at seeing this beautiful ‘Bunny’, they all dug deep into their money bags and bought plenty of tickets. Then, not to be outdone by his daughter Sophie, John appeared in a giant Easter Bunny costume and conducted the raffle. There were dozens of prizes that John had bought, including giant Easter eggs. After the raffle, John presented LTFUC committee member Gerry Dunn with a magnificent cheque for £640. During the time that John and his family have run the Royal Oak they have raised hundreds of pounds for the LTFUC and in appreciation were recently made Honorary Members of the Fund, which John is very proud of. Our picture shows John drawing the winning tickets and Sophie holding the box with the hundreds of tickets that John, Sophie and her brother Darren had sold. On behalf of the Fund we would like to thank the ‘Royal Oak’ and all the drivers who supported them in their Fund raising for London’s underprivileged and disabled children.
Jon Whittick has been a taxi driver for almost 25 years and has been married to wife Jenny for 31 years. They have two great children, Barry and Lisa and two wonderful grandsons Harry (5) and Riley (2). For Jon's 50th birthday this year, Jenny increased Jon's life insurance and booked him a 'Skydive', as she knew it was something he always wanted to do!! With only 2 weeks to go before the jump, kind hearted Jon thought it would be a good opportunity to raise money for the LTFUC and began a race to get some sponsorship. Jon said he was quite surprised at people's generosity, especially in these difficult times and he has managed to raise approximately £800 so far. Special thanks go to Gorgeous George at 123 Send and Gary at Mag Diesel for their help and contributions and a big thank you also goes to everyone who donated so generously. Jon says that although he will be moving to Spain in the very near future, he will be coming back on a regular basis to visit family and friends and to work the taxi for a week or so and will be available for the LTFUC children's outings. He says the skydive was a fantastic experience and he will definitely be doing it again and will also try to convince his wife Jenny to jump to raise funds for such a well deserving charity, so watch this space! The Hon. President, Hon. Chairman and Committee would like to thank Jon most sincerely for raising this money for us and look forward to him joining us on our future outings in 2009. My own wife has suggested I do the same to mark my 60th birthday this year, but I have gracefully declined her kind offer on Doctor's orders, well that's my story!!
